One of the great English explorers, whose name presently escapes me, once said that sailors who signed on with an exploration ship were, by in large, a troublesome lot, but worth it. I suppose the same could be said for towerdogs, this writer included. All towerdogs seem to drink a bit too much, laugh a bit too loud, find pleasure and good times in the most unusual of things, and are forever looking forward to the next trick ,which will solve the ever immediate financial crisis that is looming on the horizon. That notwithstanding, they are usually worth the trouble that their behavior brings, as they can do things at great height that most of us cannot do, and thereby bring the benefits of traveling magnetic waves to the community at large.
Following are a few shots of men I have worked with over the years. I suppose any of us could be considered troublesome at some point. More often that not, however, instead of being a trial, these guys are a great joy to behold. Not only are they skilled at things that make most men weak, they are genuinely good fellows. Quick to laugh, slow to criticize, ever looking for the good in other creatures, and best of all, curious and open, always seeking to know something new and apply it. Click on any photo to enlarge.
I have not worked with all of the guys in these photos. Some I have, but not all. Some shots are from friends of mine in the industry. Man, what a great group. Other shots are just friends in general.
The greatest thing about the tower business is the fine fellows you work with. Jerks and angry folks don't last long in this trade. As employees they get fired quick, as employers they wind up crewless in a hurry. Thankfully those folks go do something else.
